Well isn’t this just the perfect location for a wedding party!
Such a pretty location… and always a bonus when the sun is shining (which it does pretty much all of the time here!)… well it is California!
Way back in April I agreed to take a few party shots of our friends Jeannine and Graham’s wedding party – it was to be a very relaxed event – so not the usual multi page shot list and ‘must have’ images that you have at a full-blown wedding.
But then it wasn’t a conventional wedding party really… because Jeannine and Graham were in fact already married – they had tied the knot several months before hand in Santa Barbara on pretty much a spur of the moment thing, with no friends or family present – just the two of them.
….So this party was for friends and family – some like us, who had flown in from all over the UK to celebrate with them.
Others hadn’t travelled very far – Jeannine and Graham’s neighbours – Katie and Mollie…
Because we were flying over, and camera kit needed to be “carry on”…. it did of course mean that unlike for a ‘normal’ wedding, I pretty much had no kit apart from the camera, flash, plenty of batteries and little old me.
That’s travelling very light for me – I normally have the car packed to the rafters with kit… tripods, studio lights, reflectors, a multitude of lenses.. you name it – I’ve packed it – and spares too!
The groom said it was just a ‘Parrrrrty’…. so that’s exactly what we did…!
Some guests got to know each other very quickly and cemented that so-called “special relationship” Britain has with the USA… Jim from the UK took that on board straight away and got to know his “plus one” for the evening without needing too much encouragement….
Flowers for the event were supplied by Diane at Millefleur (who Graham works for – so that was handy) and were really beautiful – these were amongst my favourites from the night …. unfortunately I don’t know the names of any of them! Hence #Flower1, #Flower2 and #Flower3.
Jeannine and Graham went to great lengths in the run up to the party to create three signature cocktails:
Bean and Pepe Green iced tea (Bean and Pepe by the way are their two dogs…..) I therefore didn’t try this particular cocktail!
Perger Burvis Cosmo (that’s really not very easy to say when you’ve had a few drinks believe me ….and Sarah would back me up on that!)
BBL Killer… oh yes, and spot the gratuitous ring shot!
As it was a “free bar” (for the guests not the hosts!) we did have a few…. and as is the custom in America – you tip the barman every time he gets you a drink…..
….as you can see from the tips jar – we took full advantage of that “free bar”!!
Thanks Jeannine and Graham!
It was clearly a relief to Jeannine that the party had been such a success as she hung up her dancing shoes pretty early on and just chilled out…
… before having a cosy little moment with her new hubby….
We had a great night and a lovely time meeting Jeannine’s parents Ev and Herb – It was as the say in the film …. “As Good As it Gets”!
